Magic song | September edition

This month’s magic song reminds me of being on my first girly holiday with friends from Uni. We went to Aiya Napa for a week and had the best of times drinking a crazy amount of alcohol infused fruit juice (our attempts at cocktails), partying and dancing the nights away, getting ourselves into strange situations (toilet roll holder + cut nose – don’t ask…), boat trips, and so much more!

Enjoy!

Magic Song | March edition

This month’s song makes me feel happy, really happy. It takes me back to a warm Summer day at The Eden Project with my best friend Chadwick and The Magic Numbers Gig we were watching at the time. It reminds me of being excited, of being happy, of the beautiful light biomes, of me thinking life couldn’t get much better. It also reminds me of being in London with my Dad for a spur of the moment night to see The Magic Numbers with a string orchestra for my birthday at 19, and again, being very happy. All it takes is the first 30 seconds for me to have all those memories come flooding back. Enjoy xx

I Am What I Am

I am what I am
I don’t want praise I don’t want pity
I bang my own drum
Some think it’s noise I think it’s pretty
And so what if I love each sparkle and each bangle
Why not try to see things from a different angle
Your life is a shame
Do you can shout out I am what I am
Do you can shout out I am what I am
I am what I am
And what I am needs no excuses
I deal my own deck
Sometimes the aces sometimes the deuces
It’s one life and there’s no return and no deposit
One life so it’s time to open up your closet
Life’s not worth a dam till you can shout out
I am what I am
I am what I am
I am what I am
And what I am needs no excuses
I deal my own deck sometimes the aces sometimes the deuces
It’s one life and there’s no return and no deposit
One life so it’s time to open up your closet
Life’s not worth a dam till you can shout out
I am what I am
I am I am good
I am I am strong
I am I am somebody
I am I do belong
I am I do belong
I am I am useful
I am I am true
I am I am worthy
I am as good as you
I am as good as you
I am I am good
I am I am strong
I am I am somebody
I am I do belong

My Magic Song | October Edition

I remember when I posted back in July about my ‘Magic song’ I was obsessed with Frankie Valli and I still am. However, this month’s ‘Magic song’ comes courtesy of my yoga teacher who reminded me of the sheer brilliance of Baz Luhrmann. After participating in a particularly intense 90 minutes of Hot Yoga we got into our shavasana and she played this song. On that day I was feeling a little down and the lyrics really resonated with me. It was exactly what I needed to hear, and I left the class feeling so much better about the problems going round in my head.

Enjoy….

Ladies and Gentlemen of the class of ’97.
Wear sunscreen.
If I could offer you only one tip for the future, sunscreen would be it.
The long term benefits of sunscreen have been proved by scientists, whereas the rest of my advice has no basis more reliable than my own meandering experience…
I will dispense this advice now.
Enjoy the power and beauty of your youth; oh nevermind; you will not understand the power and beauty of your youth until they have faded.
But trust me, in 20 years you’ll look back at photos of yourself and recall in a way you can’t grasp now how much possibility lay before you and how fabulous you really looked…
You’re not as fat as you Imagine.
Don’t worry about the future; or worry, but know that worrying is as effective as trying to solve an algebra equation by chewing bubblegum.
The real troubles in your life are apt to be things that never crossed your worried mind.
The kind that blindside you at 4pm on some idle Tuesday.
Do one thing everyday that scares you.
Sing.
Don’t be reckless with other people’s hearts, don’t put up with people who are reckless with yours.
Floss.
Don’t waste your time on jealousy;
Sometimes you’re ahead,
Sometimes You’re behind.
The race is long, and in the end, it’s only with yourself.
Remember the compliments you receive, forget the insults;
If you Succeed in doing this, tell me how.
Keep your old love letters, throw away your old bank statements.
Stretch.
Don’t feel guilty if you don’t know what you want to do with your
Life.
The most interesting people I know didn’t know at 22 what they wanted to do with their lives, some of the most interesting 40 year olds I know still don’t.
Get plenty of calcium.
Be kind to your knees, you’ll miss them when they’re gone.
Maybe you’ll marry, maybe you won’t, maybe you’ll have children, maybe you won’t, maybe you’ll divorce at 40, maybe you’ll dance the funky chicken on your 75th wedding anniversary.
Whatever you do, don’t Congratulate yourself too much or berate yourself either.
Your choices are half chance, so are everybody else’s.
Enjoy your body, Use it every way you can… Don’t be afraid of it, or what other people Think of it,
It’s the greatest instrument you’ll ever own…
Dance… even if you have nowhere to do it but in your own living room.
Read the directions, even if you don’t follow them.
Do NOT read beauty magazines, they will only make you feel ugly.
Get to know your parents, you never know when they’ll be gone for good.
Be nice to your siblings;
They are the best link to your past and the people most likely to stick with you in the future.
Understand that friends come and go, but for the precious few you should hold on.
Work hard to bridge the gaps in geography and lifestyle because the older you get, the more you need the people you knew when you were young.
Live in New York City once, but leave before it makes you hard;
Live in Northern California once, but leave before it makes you soft.
Travel.
Accept certain inalienable truths, prices will rise, politicians will Philander, you too will get old, and when you do you’ll fantasize that when you were young prices were reasonable, politicians were noble and children respected their elders.
Respect your elders.
Don’t expect anyone else to support you.
Maybe you have a trust fund, Maybe you have a wealthy spouse; but you never know when either one might run out.
Don’t mess too much with your hair, or by the time you’re 40, it will look 85.
Be careful whose advice you buy, but, be patient with those who supply it. Advice is a form of nostalgia, dispensing it is a way of fishing the past from the disposal, wiping it off, painting over the ugly parts and recycling it for more than it’s worth.
But trust me on the sunscreen…

My Magic Song

Sometimes no matter how bad a mood you’re in, there’s always one song that will lift your spirits. Whether you’re walking to work in the rain with a busy day ahead, or you’re in the car stuck in traffic there’s something magical about that one song that will always put a smile on your face. And in the middle of a busy week, this song is no exception!

My ‘magic’ song right now is ‘Who Loves You’ by Frankie Valli & The Four Seasons.

Who Loves you–Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons

I’m not sure what it is about this song, if it’s the lyrics or the the melody. I think it’s just those first few opening bars of music that build into Frankie singing.

“Who loves you pretty baby? Who’s gonna help you through the night?”

This song makes me feel like I’m on top of the world and that nothing can stop me. I feel invincible when I listen to this song. I think it makes me think “Who loves you?” and the answer to that should be ‘ME’.

It also reminds of me of a fantastic night when Rylar and I went to see Jersey Boys and I just love it. In fact, I’ve had this song on repeat on my iTunes for an hour now, and it’s the most played song on my iTunes.

I’m not sure how long this will be my ‘magic’ song for, but for now I don’t see how I will get sick of it!

Do you have a magic song?
